I will start by admitting that this is my first visit to any kind of spa. Before visiting Thermen Maastricht, I read several reviews, some positive, and others negative. Some of the negative input was based on cost for food at the restaurant, cleanliness of the facilities, the number of guest allowed into the facility, and dress code.
To tell your truth, my expectation was that the prices would be at least 30 to 40% more than what I encountered. Yes, the bottle of water was expensive, but the rest of the menu was OK.
As for the cleanliness of the facility, I found it to be , very clean. I am sure that management read the reviews and made the required adjustments.
I have been at Thermen on both a weekend and a weekday. If what you are looking for is a relaxing, romantic getaway, perhaps a weekday is best. The number of guests in the facility can double on a weekend making it difficult to experience some of the aromatic spas (first come first serve). In the fall, although the gardens are open, it’s pretty tough to brave the cold in a robe and sandals. That keeps most guess within the pool and Jacuzzi area outdoors. If it rains, the majority of the guests will spend their time indoors. I don’t think that it’s possible for management to manage long-term reservations based on weather.
Dress code. If you’re the bashful type, make sure to check with reservation staff for clothing required days. Yes, the locker rooms are shared. The only way to gain a little more privacy is to use one of the nearby restrooms. Enough said!
Finally, I found the staff at Thermen to be friendly and helpful. I can’t imagine what it takes to keep a facility like this running efficiently. They make it look easy. For my first time at a spot of this kind, they made my time there extremely relaxing and enjoyable.
Thank you!
I have been to several spas in The Netherlands and I really enjoyed my time here.
The staff were some of the most professional and friendliest I have ever come across. They really made me feel welcome, particularly as I was on my own.
There was a good variety of saunas, of style and temperature. The pools were the perfect temperature too.
Everything was clean, modern and welcoming.
The Aufguss ceremonies were also excellent. Perfect temperature and well presented.
I also ate twice in the restaurant. The mushroom risotto was probably one of the best I have ever eaten.
I can heartedly recommend it.
Spent a few very indulgent hours here,
The spas, saunas and pools were all very clean and the facilities were very good.
The staff were welcoming and friendly as this was our first time and didn't speak. Dutch was no problem.
The cafe was very good and the selection food was also good.
I'm looking forward to going back if we ever visit the Netherlands again
Spa facilities are great, but the extra service prices are excessive. 4.25 for 0.2 sparking water, 13.50 for a bathrobe, 15.50 for a pita bread with serrano, 12.95 for a 40 minute singing bowl session… I’m fine paying 50€ for the entrance but everything else is overpriced and left a bad taste.
The design of Thermen is cozy, inviting, and thoughtful. Staff are all friendly and welcoming. Good variety of sauna rooms; my favorite was the Panorama Room which had a beautiful overlook onto the outdoor patio with lush trees in the background. I went to 1 opgieten at 21.30uur with the Sauna Master Stephanie and the music, essential oils, and temperature were all relaxing and meditative. Hoofdmassage & Gelaatsmasker for 20 minutes was different than I expected; like a relaxing massage with moisturizing lotion masque which you do not wash off. The 3-course dinner arrangement was a delicious salad and soup starter, choice of entree, and choice of dessert (appletaart or coffee with an assortment of bonbons.) It was actually a very healthy portion of food and the dining room has a fireplace, couches, reading chairs, and a view which overlooks the forest. The entire facility was very well cared for and clean. Overall, wonderful experience and great value for your money. I will definitely return the next time I am in Maastricht. Areas for improvement for the spa would be to have bicycle parking directly outside of the spa entrance for safety, more information on the website for the restaurant menu items and pricing, water stations around to have a drink or fill up your personal water bottle, and increased humidity in the Turksestoombad room.
Great place for a relaxing time, but pricey. We spontaneous on a weekend without prior booking. Lady at the reception was nice. However 49€ doesn’t sound too bad for me but that doesn’t include a robe or towel neither the access to sauna infusion. Because we went spontaneously only one of us had a towel to rent a towel it’s 7.5€ which seems quite high for me. A whole set with slippers, robe and towel is 27€.
Sauna infusion access can be bought in a package or by paying 14€ on top.
The food was okay, nothing special but sorry the prices were atrocious 4.3€ for a 200ml sparkling water bottle. 21€ for 5ravioli with vegetables.
It’s a really nice place and we really enjoyed it however in my personal opinion the prices are a bit too high for what it is
The facilities are spacious, clean and have a beautiful interior. You have a lot of options to relax and enjoy the level of comfort, also the staff is very helpful and friendly.
It’s a great place for a weekend getaway and we will definitely strive to come back!
Beautiful and relaxing spa with different saunas, steam room, jacuzzis, pools, and cold baths. Check-in was easy and we could rent robes and towels. Staff was very helpful and friendly at all times. Food and service in the restaurant were great. We especially enjoyed the quiet rooms. It was an amazing experience and we can definitely recommend.
