I wish I wouldn't have to write this, but this has been my worst guest experience in the Netherlands. The host has given away our reserved room, leaving a girlfriend and I (two women in our 30s) out on the street for the night with our luggage and no possibility of other hotel accomodations. Nor there have been any attempts at helping us find an alternative option, and rudely dismissed/ignored us when looking for assistance on the matter.
Full story:
I've reserved a room over the phone for the next night, it was said I'll call again for confirmation. After 3 calls with no reply I've left a voice mail to confirm the reservation. To be scrupulous I've called again (5th time) where I finally got through to the owner and it was confirmed the next night for two people. To the question "when do you want to check in?" The answer has been "we should arrive more or less around 3". So: 6 phone calls, all confirmed. Because of train delays we finally arrived there at 3.40pm the next day and got told "there's no room, someone else took it, you are late, go to another hotel". As the wife tried to swoop in to help she got quickly shushed away. Mind you that we're in the middle of the countryside here with very few hotel options and they were all full. Additionally they had my phone number and didn't bother calling when giving away the room and we got given no viable alternative. When going back to the front desk to ask for more support, or a taxi, or anything, I've been given the silent treatment. Not sure if this was prompted by the fact that we have a slight alternative look, we are not dutch, or we're "younger" women, all I know is that this shall never happen and when/if it does, the host should take the responsability of the situation and try to be helpful at the very least. Too bad really, what an insulting experience.
I visited here this weekend for a business visit. The first thing I noticed was red electrical tape holding a piece of carpet. ||It strikes me that tape sums up the whole establishment: it is tidy, very clean, but dated. My room was vast but a little cold. The en suite was totally spotless but the brown fittings are a from a decade long past.|The carpet is from the same age but equally clean.|I had a decent evening meal, though lamb chops were the only thing available. Breakfast was traditional meat and cheese, with some breads. It wasn't to my taste, but was ok.|My stat was functional, I'm not sure I would stay for business again and would avoid it for a leisure stay.
I have been staying in Spaarbankhoeve for a weekend last year in April, and I enjoyed that place.||The location is the most beautiful thing: in the middle of the Spaarbankboos, a peaceful place that you can nearly see from the "long", narrow street that separates it from the main road.||It is manly a restaurant, where all sorts of soups (and not only soups) are served, but it also has rooms and the one where I slept with my boyfriend was really a nice one, especially for its view, facing the deer fence.||The staff were helpful, particularly for the possibility of speaking english fluently with them. ||The only things I would improve are the welcome that could be warmer and the fact of translating their website at least in english.||All in all it was a good stay.
Family hotel. Breakfast and Dinner only. Breakfast cold cuts. Rooms basic but clean. No elevator. Dinner options limited with small kitchen staff. Nicely situated in forest outside Hoogeveen. Walking trails and ample parkings.
Amazing place, amazing service with very nice owners who made sure we got everything and we eat enough 😂
Only the room it was not cleaned properly and bed sheets wasn't changed, but apart of this it is very calm and quiet place and worth a stay.
I stayed with my friend here 1 night for a festival that was going on in Hoogeveen. The hotel itself was nice and in a really relaxing environment. The owners were nice and helpful and even fixed a ride for us from the hotel to the festival venue, free of charge! If I ever go back to Hoogeveen this is where I will stay again-
Superb. Been here for over a year weekly on business. Beautiful location set in a great forest area with great walks. The owners and staff add to the charm of the place, but above all the food is great.
Beautifull hotel & restaurant in a forested region near Hoogeveen, Netherlands. Lovely gardens and deer in the field and trees next to the hotel. Quiet and secluded, clean and friendly staff, great food and a range of drinks available.
